Purpose of the Position: Design, fabrication and testing of electronic subsystems used for communication, control, and electrical power generation for Capstone Microturbine systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and select microelectronic subsystems and components, necessary to provide output electrical power from Capstone Microturbines and for overall system control.
  • Design cabling for electronics and power interconnections, selecting the appropriate materials and referencing the standards necessary to assure compliance.
  • Source and integrate appropriate components compatible with PCBA circuitry and layout.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues with PCBA’s related to hardware malfunction, damage, electro-magnetic interference, and grounding.
  • Perform computer-aided design of electronics and control electronics subsystems plus the automatic and manual testing of these subsystems.
  • Work with supply chain personnel to develop and evaluate external vendors, and to identify alternative parts in support of supply issues and obsolescence concerns.
  • Coordinate and provide guidance with appropriate personnel from Engineering and Manufacturing to assure the electronics and control subsystems meet specifications and integrate within the desired Capstone Microturbine System and Subsystem.
  • Work closely with Certification to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in analog and digital circuit design.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic component selection and industry standards / best practices, especially surface mount devices on PCBs.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCB layout techniques for noise immunity, circuit design, troubleshooting and EMI filter design.
  • Demonstrated capability of schematic design and PCB layout, OrCAD for creating schematics, and PADs are preferred.
  • Experience in logic design and VHDL programming for CPLD and FPGA is a plus.
  • Solid knowledge and extensive experience in high-speed digital circuit design with microprocessors and DSPs, products from Xilinx, TI and Motorola is a plus.
  • Experience with HALT and HASS testing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with motor drives and power supply design and test environments is a plus.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal abilities to participate positively within a design and production team involving numerous technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to handle multiple projects concurrently, leading to effective results and completion.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills - able to lead projects effectively with suppliers and technicians.
  • Capability to understand and appreciate mechanical engineering, physical,
  • thermodynamic, and chemical principles important in the design and operation of Capstone Microturbine systems

Education and Experience:

  • BSEE with minimum 5+ years hands-on experience in designing and testing microelectronic subsystems.
  • Specific experience in the design and testing of microelectronics subsystems for electrical power generation.

Purpose of the Position: Work with the sales team, suppliers, outside engineers and contractors to help define project requirements, refine the technical solution and business case, and execute on projects from conception to commissioning.  The overarching goal is always to support the business development goals of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with team to help with conceptual designs of multi-technology energy and sustainability projects including generators, CHP, solar photovoltaic (PV), and/or battery energy storage systems (BESS), both on-grid and off-grid (microgrid/resiliency)
  • Creates equipment lists, project budgets, work breakdown schedules, and project execution plans.
  • Develops and implements recovery plans for off-schedule situations and unanticipated issues.
  • Manages projects costs during execution phase.
  • Leads project partners to successful completion of assigned projects.
  • Tracks projects against schedule, budget and objectives, reporting status on a weekly basis to supervisor, and CRO on an as-needed basis.
  • Utilizes project management tools and analysis software as-needed to manage projects.
  • Manage external resources related to projects - these efforts include the contract management, planning, budgeting, execution and successful commissioning of the completed projects.
  • Coordinate with customers, the sales team, and project stakeholders to provide necessary project status updates and report internally on any customer feedback.
  • Lead project teams and facilitate the communication and interaction among the project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical and commercial insight to support projects including technical feasibility and economic studies, creation of systems specifications and simplified diagrams of electrical, control, fuel, thermal and mechanical systems, as well as minor mechanical/electrical design and analysis.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Great customer service and communication skills.
  • Excellent technical skills and understanding of EPC methods, contracts, and blueprints/construction drawings.
  • Experience in multiple distributed generation technologies is desirable.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • General knowledge of operations, including scheduling, procurement, manufacturing, test engineering, and quality systems.
  • Ability to understand, track, drill-down, and question activities and issues in all functional areas and make sound project decisions based upon that data.

Education and Experience:

  • Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineer Controls Engineer, Thermal Engineering, Physics bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, is required.
  • Design/build construction or pre-sales engineering experience with generators, CHP, solar photovoltaic (PV), and/or battery energy storage systems (BESS) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years in demonstrated successful project/construction management.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Engineering and Quality

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:  Under general guidelines and guidance of Senior Receiving Inspector, performs non-routine visual, mechanical, dimensional or electrical inspection of a variety of products primarily in receiving and occasionally in the production assembly process through final system assembly and test.  Determines acceptability, and identifies and recommends disposition of defective materials in accordance with established procedures. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect, audit, and process first article complex electro-mechanical systems, including welded assemblies of the product, for compliance to Engineering Specifications and Drawings, in accordance with receiving inspection procedures.
  • Determine acceptability of receiving inspection materials using inspection tools, and disposition to warehouse or Material Review Board (MRB) as required by inspection procedures.
  • Inspect material that is work-in-process (WIP), and in finished goods to verify quality compliance in accordance with procedures.
  • Determine compliance of receiving inspection processes and tools used. Recommend changes or maintenance as required.
  • Participate in Corrective and Preventive Actions and Manufacturing support efforts to ensure production of quality products in a fast-paced, dynamic, customer focused environment.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma efforts to move the organization towards world-class quality in operations.
  • Collect and analyze quality data and information.
  • Participate in and / or perform root cause analysis and verification.
  • Recommend ideas that will enhance the quality and reliability of products and reduce cost of poor quality throughout the Company.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by Senior Management.
  • Work may be required outside of normal working hours.

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Has basic understanding of quality processes.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to accurately perform internal inspection to close/critical tolerances.
  • Microsoft Office computer skills with ability to learn new programs like SAP.
  • Interface with engineering and manufacturing to develop inspection processes and perform failure analysis.
  • Fast learner that gains knowledge under the guidance and direction of the Senior Receiving Inspector, leading to independent work.
  • Able to administer MRB activity and disposition non-conforming material.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Up to 2 years minimum experience in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial Manufacturing with an ISO based Quality System. 
  • Operation of CMM experience is beneficial.
  • ISO/QS/TS/AS Quality System knowledge is beneficial.
  • Able to interpret and inspect to drawings, models, and sketches.
  • Able to use various standard measuring and test equipment.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Responsible for moderate to complex technical documentation tasks and projects with either writing or editing focus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, develop and maintain reference documentation (e.g. manuals, procedures, technical specifications, presentations, proposals, etc.) used by customers or staff.
  • Translate technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences.
  • Work with other departments to produce a wide variety of technical publications.
  • Interview subject matter experts and technical staff to collect information, prepare written ext, and coordinate layout and material organization.
  • Research information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications to fill any gaps. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Must possess excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Must demonstrate technical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and components.
  • Able to manage projects and organize work in an efficient manner in addition to working well under stress and time pressures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, which include Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 3 years development test or field service experience in an electrical or gas turbine environment.
  • Experience in power plant data management, high power inverter technology, or gas turbine experience highly desirable.
