GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Provide strategic leadership and direction in public and government affairs messaging and strategy for Capstone’s clean energy products and services. The increased uptake of Capstone microturbines and supporting clean energy technologies depends on favorable government policies, positive market conditions, and increased awareness of the company and its technology. Microturbines face significant competition from well-known renewable energy, distributed generation, and reciprocating engine technologies as well as entrenched utility opposition to distributed generation and anti-combustion advocates.

The company needs to proactively create positive policy and market conditions while increasing awareness of its products. Capstone needs to identify and maintain a strategic focus on high opportunity markets and territories and train its distributor network to meet top performance standards. This position will support the development of markets globally for Capstone Green Energy Corp’s products through policy advocacy, high-level engagement efforts, educating decision-makers and consumers, and creating new and profitable relationships for the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Policy will:

  • Engage directly with federal, state and local governments, utilities, and end-users in the U.S. and in foreign countries in order to advocate for Capstone Green Energy Corp. and pursue favorable policies, regulations and incentives; support the development of distribution network capabilities to do the same;
  • Track and analyze policy and market developments at the global, national and local level that impact Capstone Green Energy Corp. and prepare strategy recommendations for executive management;
  • Manage external policy consultants and participate in relevant industry organizations;
  • Educate policymakers, regulators, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and other relevant groups on the benefits of microturbine technology and Capstone’s growing product offering; involve our distribution network in this effort;
  • Align Capstone Green Energy Corp. with government, industry, nonprofit, and international entities engaged in the global fight against climate change, environmental pollution, and energy insecurity;
  • Involve Capstone Green Energy Corp. in relevant public-private partnerships and cultivate other creative linkages that could raise awareness of the company and its technology among government policymakers;
  • Work closely with Sales division to identify market access issues impacting the deployment of Capstone products; develop and implement strategies to remove barriers to deployment; identify promising market opportunities;
  • Track available government funding opportunities for microturbine product development;
  • Develop and utilize relationships with U.S. officials to obtain government advocacy on foreign contracts; and
  • Lead internal corporate communication and collaboration to address policy and strategic objectives.

Purpose of the Position: Full-time position with primary responsibility of coordinating tradeshows and events. Complete administrative marketing duties and marketing projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all trade show logistics, including exhibitor prospectus forms, materials lists, install and dismantle, contracts and freight to/from show site while keeping associated costs within budget
  • Assist the Vice President of Marketing & Distribution and the Marketing Manager in day-to-day administrative duties
  • Coordinates travel needs for booth personnel and executives, including hotel
  • Coordinate event-specific pre-show and post-show communications/campaigns, including event lead collection/assignments
  • Manage tradeshow assets inventory and fulfillment requests
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with design, production and tradeshow vendors
  • Direct the coordination of all trade show related paperwork, invoicing and accounting

REPORTS TO: Director, Product Engineering

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Design and develop optimal, cost-effective solutions ensuring that designed product meets performance, manufacturability, serviceability, and quality requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead engineering design efforts, responsible for all phases of design from conceptualization to prototyping to qualification to product release. Accountable for ensuring solutions meet requirements for system integration, module interfaces, and support qualification and compliance.
  • Generate design solutions for the integration of turbomachinery modules and components into systems that meet, but are not limited to, UL, CE, ATEX, and C1D2 requirements.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments, vendors, and customers to design and manufacture products that fulfill design intent, as well as, achieve budgetary, reliability, and schedule goals.
  • Generate engineering documentation that entails solid models, detailed design drawing definition, Bills of Materials, Engineering Changes Requests, Test Plans, and Engineering Specifications and Reports. Create, update, and check engineering designs through Capstone’s Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes.
  • Compile costed Bill of Materials to identify methods of optimizing direct material costs through, materials, manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability improvements, make versus buy analysis, and work closely with the internal departments and vendors to implement cost reductions without compromising product reliability, production line assembly, or serviceability requirements.
  • Work with suppliers and purchasing to ensure supplier product is meeting all required specifications and work to resolve supplier discrepancy issues using proper processes and possible visits to supplier sites.
  • As needed, assist with supplier assessments, development plans including supplier evaluation processes, and identify/implement supplier process improvements and cost savings.
  • Interact and work with drafting, aerodynamic, thermal, and stress analysts/ consultants, as needed. Position may require performing mechanical analyses of components.
  • Ability to perform general engineering calculations in order to validate engineering design meets product requirement specifications.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Engineering knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, mechanical structures and interfaces, and materials of components.
  • Engineering design and manufacturing knowledge of metal enclosures that integrates, but not limited to, internal combustion engines, high frequency power electronics, microelectronics, fuels controls, cable assemblies, compressors, valves, and airflow management.
  • General knowledge of turbomachinery and/or power electronics.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • General knowledge of CNC machining, casting, and welding technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing, GD&T.
  • Ability to design using 3-D CAD / solid modeling software required.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities to meet aggressive schedules.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • Ability to travel to supplier sites, including international suppliers (10% of time).

Education and Experience Required:

  • Require BS degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, aeronautical, or electrical.
  • Five years or more applicable experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5 is required.
  • Experience with ANSYS Finite Element Analysis is a plus but not required.
  • Five or more years automotive / turbine industry background is highly desirable.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience with designing products that meet UL and CE requirements is a plus but not required.

Reports To: Director, Product Integrity

Purpose of the Position: Develops processes and systems that ensure the quality, reliability and safety of procured products and services. Duties include implementation of appropriate processes and practices at suppliers to ensure that products supplied to Capstone meet all requirements, participation and leadership in continuous improvement activities and training of personnel when required. This position will aggressively move our supplier base to “dock to point of use” status through early involvement during new part introduction processes, supplier selection and approval processes, and improvement programs that include statistical and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain Quality Assurance standards for Capstone suppliers in accordance with Capstone Supplier Quality policies and ISO requirements.
  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with Supply Chain functions, supplier development and part certification programs for new and existing suppliers.
  • Support company initiatives to develop and improve supply chain performance and productivity.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct supplier audits, surveys and inspections.
  • Coordinate supplier Part Production Approval Process (PPAP) submissions and evaluations, including First Article Inspections (FAIs).
  • Operate as a communication conduit to Capstone’s supply chain partners, receiving, reviewing and processing waivers and deviations through approved processes.
  • Ensure the ongoing quality of products manufactured at external manufacturers by supporting and optimizing receiving inspection activities.
  • Lead teams to resolve supplier and procurement related issues and Supplier Corrective Actions (SCARs) to ensure complete and effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Group to establish and maintain a Supplier Quality Scorecard, as part of a comprehensive Supplier Scorecard that includes Delivery, Cost, Partnership, and Quality.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate high level of computer literacy – proficient in developing spreadsheets, utilizing word processing and databases, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively, make presentations and write concise reports for all stakeholders.
  • Experience operating within an ERP system, preferably SAP.

  • 4+ years of supplier quality engineering experience within a machine shop, assembly, inspection and/or test environment, ideally with high precision parts and products.
  • ASQ Certification (for example, Certified Quality Manager, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with ISO 9001/ISO 14001.
  • Self-starter with the ability to quickly learn about new processes using independent research techniques.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Responsible for moderate to complex technical documentation tasks and projects with either writing or editing focus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, develop and maintain reference documentation (e.g. manuals, procedures, technical specifications, presentations, proposals, etc.) used by customers or staff.
  • Translate technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences.
  • Work with other departments to produce a wide variety of technical publications.
  • Interview subject matter experts and technical staff to collect information, prepare written ext, and coordinate layout and material organization.
  • Research information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications to fill any gaps.
