Capstone and WattAI Demonstrate Advanced At-the-Meter Optimization at Capstone HQ
At Capstone Green Energy’s Van Nuys headquarters, a new collaboration with Watt AI, Inc. (known as WattAI)is showcasing how intelligent control systems can redefine microgrid efficiency. The demonstration integrates a Capstone C1000S microturbine with WattAI’s at-the-meter optimization software, battery energy storage (BESS), load bank, and an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, all operating within a live test environment at the company’s microgrid enclosure.
The goal of the project is straightforward yet transformative: to stabilize the power flow at the utility meter by ensuring that all generated energy is absorbed and utilized on-site rather than exported to the grid. During turbine testing, excess generation can cause demand-charge spikes or reverse power penalties. WattAI’s software dynamically manages load and storage assets—such as the onsite load bank and battery—to maintain a steady grid interface and optimize overall system efficiency.
